United Technologies Corporation Demonstrator Lead in Brooklyn, New York

Job ID: 72250BR

City: Brooklyn

State: New York

Country: United States

Category: Engineering

Job Type: Full Time

Description:

United Technologies Corporation was founded by some of the world’s greatest inventors. We helped build the Second Industrial Revolution and brought about a century of urbanization and globalization. Now we need your help to build the next one.

Tech@UTC is the UTC technology organization, comprised of the global engineering function, several focused centers of expertise, our skunkworks organization – United Technologies Advanced Projects (UTAP), and our advanced Research & Development lab – United Technologies Research Center (UTRC). By combining a passion for science with precision engineering, we create smart, sustainable solutions that prove we can do the big things the right way. We put the “T” in UTC.

The newly-created Digital Thread Center of Expertise (DTCOE) aims to demonstrate 2X or more acceleration in product development and production ramp timelines by deploying an end-to-end digital model thread through all phases of design, manufacturing, and in-service operation of the most complex UTC products.

The DTCOE is a three-year initiative to develop and demonstrate a fully digital product design, manufacturing, and in-service support approach. The team will develop a toolchain that supports digital continuity across different levels of model fidelity, different physics domains, and different levels of abstraction, such that the product, the manufacturing system, and the operating environment are represented. Such a toolchain will support an agile design flow for product development, the co-design and co-optimization of the product and manufacturing environment, and improved analytics of in-service product data. Within the three year timeframe, the DTCOE will apply this toolchain and methodology to a complex UTC product such as a small jet engine to demonstrate scalability, quantify value, and prepare for enterprise-wide industrialization.

As the Demonstrator Leadyou will lead this digital thread demonstrator. You will be responsible for virtually all aspects of project execution and management. You will need to build a dynamic and diverse team to apply the digital thread toolchain and semantic integration platform to the development of a complex aerospace product such as a small jet engine. You will develop a comprehensive, aggressive, and rigorously articulated project plan, and manage day-to-day execution of the demonstrator. You will need to ensure effective collaboration both with the product team as well as with the other DTCOE teams responsible for the toolchain and model development and validation.

The job will likely entail frequent travel (25-40%) for co-located development with the product team which will likely be located in Montreal, Canada.

Qualification:

  • Demonstrated leadership of complex, cross-disciplinary technical teams

  • Significant experience in project management

  • Breadth and depth of knowledge in aerospace product development (a plus if it’s engines) process (including both engineering and manufacturing) with a broad understanding of adjacent disciplines and digital technologies

  • Superlative communication skills across both digital and physical domains

  • Strong executive presence, whether in the boardroom, or on a panel with startup CEOs, and demonstrated thought leadership in diverse situations

  • An unreasonable combination of risk-tolerance, impatience, optimism, empathy, and vision, and a burning desire to make a difference
