United Technologies Advanced Projects (UTAP) is at the heart of UTC’s technology organization, fostering a startup-like culture that is unafraid of failure and trying new things. We are seeking a highly-capable, action-oriented, strategic thinker to join the operations team of a brand new advanced projects organization.

You will report directly into the Director of Operations for Advanced Projects, responsible for helping to design, implement and rapidly evolve the IT infrastructure as we build out a brand new organization dedicated to supporting fast-paced innovation projects spanning United Technologies’ numerous industries.

In order to support this startup-like pace and fluid culture across multiple physical project sites, UTAP will need a truly modern collaboration tool set, and streamlined processes optimized for speed. Not only will this IT setup enable exciting projects to produce results in real time, elements of this setup will also be referenced for broader deployments across the company.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing the UTAP IT strategy. This will involve overseeing and assessing third-party vendors as well as partnering and collaborating with UTC Corporate IT.

Key Job Responsibilities (concrete, bulleted)

  • Design and implement the UTAP IT strategy, researching the newest and best tools and platforms

  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with third party vendors and UTC Corporate Infrastructure teams to coordinate projects

  • Coordinate IT support for UTAP initiatives

  • Oversee hardware inventories

Qualification:

  • Experience building an IT landscape in a start-up environment

  • Familiarity with typical constraints found in corporate IT environments, including data control restrictions, ITAR and GDPR compliance, among others, and a demonstrated ability to deploy lean and adaptable toolsets in this context

  • Demonstrated ability to drive results and work in a time-sensitive, high pressure environment

  • Experience with Operating systems (Windows and Linux variants), platforms (servers, clusters, desktops, laptops, mobile), computer hardware, server architecture (physical and virtual), storage systems, networks (WAN, LAN, WLAN, firewalls)

  • Experience with foundational middleware and applications such as G-Suite, Active Directory, LDAP, DNS, Outlook, web access, security suites, collaboration technologies

  • Experience with Azure, AWS or equivalent cloud platforms

  • Experience with desktop virtualization of Windows, Red Hat and UBUNTU

  • Ability to adeptly navigate large bureaucratic institutions, and establish strong relationships while acting as an agent for change

  • A well-tuned balance of impatience, empathy, curiosity, and analytical rigor

  • Motivated self-starter with enthusiasm to learn and passion for speed and agility

  • Exceptionally organized and detail oriented

  • Superlative communication skills, both in-person, and over distances, and an ability to actively facilitate coordination with multiple remote teams.

  • Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Proficient in English speaking, reading and writing skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Advanced degree preferred

  • 7-10+ years of experience in a related field

  • Demonstrated history of success in multiple positions of increasing scope and responsibility, with a significant duration of experience and expertise spanning the full qualifications of this role
