Position Summary (narrative)

The newly-created Digital Thread Center of Expertise (DTCOE) aims to demonstrate 2X or more acceleration in product development and production ramp timelines by deploying an end-to-end digital model thread through all phases of design, manufacturing, and in-service operation of the most complex UTC products.

The DTCOE is a three-year initiative to develop and demonstrate a fully digital product design, manufacturing, and in-service support approach. The team will develop a toolchain that supports digital continuity across different levels of model fidelity, different physics domains, and different levels of abstraction, such that the product, the manufacturing system, and the operating environment are represented. Such a toolchain will support an agile design flow for product development, the co-design and co-optimization of the product and manufacturing environment, and improved analytics of in-service product data. Within the three year timeframe, the DTCOE will apply this toolchain and methodology to a complex UTC product such as a small jet engine to demonstrate scalability, quantify value, and prepare for enterprise-wide industrialization.

As the Toolchain Integration Leadyou will lead the team that is responsible for the integration of a variety of commercially-available and bespoke tools to enable end-to-end digital continuity across the entire product lifecycle (design, manufacturing, and in-service operation). Our approach to delivering digital continuity is through the semantic integration of models across different domain-specific modeling languages (physics domains), across various levels of model fidelity, and across multiple levels of abstraction. In the end, you will deliver a toolchain and model integration framework that supports a fully model-based aerospace and commercial product design process, with simultaneous optimization of the product and its manufacturing environment, and an “as built” and “as maintained” digital twin (consisting of geometric as well as multi-physics behavioral models) that lives with the product for the duration of its service life.

  • Excellent understanding of key technologies, such as cloud infrastructure, relational and non-relational DB, RDF, ontology (e.g., OWL), MDA technology, UML, REST services and micro-services, Java, C++ Experience in prominent standards for tool and data integration, such as BPEL, BPML, WSDL, OSLC, ReqIF, FMI, etc.

  • Experience in Agile methodology for software development and modeling

  • Experience in continuous integration and configuration management processes and technology

  • Experience in tool architecture definition, prototype implementation, tool integration and automation solutions

  • Experience with commercial PLM/ALM and MES/MOMS solutions

  • Superlative communication skills, across digital and physical domains

Education:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or substantially related field
