As part of the Sensors & Integrated Systems (SIS) team, you'll help develop* the next generation of more intelligent, more integrated and more reliable solutions that enhance aircraft safety and performance in the most rigorous flight conditions. The Engineering Intern will work initially in the Engine and/or Air Data Sensors design team developing highly reliable products which meet customer specified requirements/expectations at the lowest competitive cost. The engineering intern will be a highly motivated self-starter who will be capable of supporting/leading projects including product development, testing, report generation, and schedule management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support bids and proposals for a new engine and air data sensors

  • Support the manufacture and fabrication of new engine and air data sensors

  • Participate in trade studies and material selections

  • Support design of sensors utilizing PTC Creo CAD system and TeamCenter Product Lifecycle Management Software

  • Work with the Global Engineering Center in India on technical design tasks

  • Support reviewing requirements and evaluate new product design and functionality in support of meeting customer requirements and successful certification efforts

  • Perform tolerance analyses on components and assemblies to ensure proper fit/function

  • Facilitates necessary customer requirement testing to ensure product safety

  • Support interactions with Business Development and Program Management to ensure customer satisfaction

  • Interface with all other functional groups and departments as required in the development of the product design

  • Assists Engineering Management to coordinate the timely delivery of product design and customer proposal requests

  • Support preparation of preliminary and final detail design and documentation of systems, components, and assemblies

  • May occasionally design test fixtures and tooling

  • Adheres to all UTAS rules and codes of conduct

  • Performs other duties as required

Qualification:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher

  • Must have completed at least 30 credit hours of college coursework​

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Analytical skills including knowledge of physics, dynamics, and statics

  • Basic experience presenting design solutions

  • PTC Creo experience (or other high-end CAD software package)

  • Design experience with material selection, machining, and material joining

  • Experience with FEA or Strength hand calculations

  • Previous experience working in an Integrated Development Team Environment

  • Individual must be very detail oriented and thorough in daily work activities due to the criticality of the ejection performance

  • Customer skills and customer focus (both internal and external customers)

  • Good analytical skills

  • Ability to work as part of an integrated product team

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize both daily issues

  • Good written and verbal skills

  • Excellent computer skills, including skill in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new software

Education: Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering from an accredited institution.
