UTC Collins Aerospace, Sensors & Fire Protection Systems – a leader in the design and manufacturing of sensors and precision instrumentation for commercial, military, business and regional jet aircraft worldwide – is looking for a talented and motivated Engineer/Technologist with a strong, hands-on background in electro-mechanical systems and devices.

Our Avionics Sensor facility has an opening for a Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer/Technologist in the Advance Technology organization. This position focuses on developing, and evaluating new electro-mechanical sensor technologies and prototypes. The ideal candidate will have in-depth hands-on experience and knowledge in design, development, build, troubleshooting, and test of electro-mechanical systems, devices. The candidate must have the ability to function effectively in a dynamic lab environment, working closely with a diverse team of engineers and associates of other disciplines during various development phases of projects.

The Electro Mechanical Engineer/Technologist will join a highly experienced interdisciplinary team of engineers working in a dynamic, collaborative environment. The focus will be on maturing new technologies while engaging product development teams with the following specific responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an active member of a cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams executing prototype development according to plan.

  • Support the development and design of new electro-mechanical technologies and architectural concepts to support the company’s current and new business opportunities.

  • Design, build, assemble, test, analyze, and implement electro-mechanical systems, devices, and components.

  • Integrate electro-mechanical system assemblies and devices into opto-mechanical assemblies.

  • Interface with vendors and suppliers for optical component selection

  • Design, build and test electrical systems

  • Design, build, and test cable assemblies – both optical fiber and electrical cabling

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.

5 years of demonstrated electro-mechanical engineering experience required.

Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical hardware development, integration, and test.

Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems, and electrical circuitry.

Strong effective verbal and written communication skills.

Proactive, independent, and hands-on with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
