Role Overview

This position is within the Publications and Training organization for Collins Aerospace - Products and Aftermarket support. The individual in this position is responsible for leading a team to define requirements, author technical specifications and lead matrixed resources in the development of solutions to support business needs.

An individual in this position will bring flexibility, creativity, and versatility to the job responsibilities and attributes. The ideal candidate will be able to work with Strategic Business Integration Analysts, application users, developers, leaders, and Collins Digital Technology group. In this role responsibilities include research, design, development, testing, diagnostic debugging, release management, and day-to-day user support. Change management of source control, documentation of system changes, and production monitoring are included in responsibilities.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Ability to analyze and manage complex business problems to be solved with automated systems and provides technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing systems and procedures that are cost effective and meet user requirements.

  • Performs business analysis of systems and follows through the full development life cycle.

  • Leads cross-functional teams in thinking through a logical, in depth analysis of a problem by providing technical direction/guidance of moderate to high complexity.

  • Develop/modify functional specifications, investigate and understand new technologies, conduct unit-tests, code review and performance monitoring.

  • Prepares operating instructions and compiles documentation of program development.

  • Designs and builds changes, extensions, and enhancements to existing application programs and reports.

  • Designs and develops integrations between applications using application programming interfaces.

  • Supports data migration, data conversion, data loading, and performance improvement of information.

  • Works with users to support business applications, and investigating operational problems/system requirements.

  • Coordinates and communicates system change requirements to end users.

  • Capable of proactively identifying and communicating technical software issues and help resolve these issues. Ensure these issues are elevated to project leadership for resolution.

  • Reviewing software defects, business trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements and recommend new approaches, tools, techniques that drive continuous improvements in software development processes.

  • Provides exploratory/discovery consulting services to internal customers.

  • Contribute to software engineering requirements capture and analysis in area of domain expertise. Able to identify cross-functional deficiencies in requirements.

  • Translate business needs into technical requirements. Has system-wide responsibility on moderately complex projects and components.

  • Estimating project resource requirements for multi-developer projects.

  • Ability to develop engineering estimates for Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) and Bid proposals, using applicable enterprise estimation tools, for components and area of expertise.

Knowledge and Skills Desired:

  • Proficient with modern software development best practices and configuration management tools.

  • MS Access Database development experience.

  • Proven ability to support MS Access database.

  • Java or other object-oriented programming experience.

  • Visual Basic programming knowledge.

  • Structured Query Language (SQL) experience.

  • Proven ability to support SQL database.

  • Ability to develop and troubleshoot program code.

  • XML, XSLT, XSD, FOSI/DTD knowledge.

  • Knowledge of publication development programs (Arbortext Editor, Adobe FrameMaker, or other XML structured authoring environments).

Basic Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.
