We own and lease more than 150 sites in 25 countries across the globe with half of our sites located outside the United States. As we continue to grow our global presence, UTAS is looking for a self-motivated, independent attorney with broad real estate and related experience to support the acquisition, disposition and leasing of UTAS sites. In this role, you will work with a cross-functional team of business leaders, internal and external lawyers, and finance, real estate and environmental professionals to ensure that real estate transactions are designed and managed to ensure compliance with the business goals, applicable law and our internal policies and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Providing legal and strategy advice to UTAS business units in both inter-company and external real estate transactions.

  • Supporting due diligence efforts.

  • Structuring, drafting, reviewing and negotiating letters of intent, purchase and sale agreements, leases, licenses, easements and other real estate documents.

  • Helping drive transactions to closure efficiently while ensuring compliance with internal real estate policies and procedures.

  • Supporting litigation involving property and real estate issues, including managing outside counsel.

  • Assisting with real estate aspects of M&A and other transactions.

  • Supporting alternative energy leasing and similar transactions, as needed.

  • Supporting the disposition of environmental issues relating to the real estate portfolio and real estate transactions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification: Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong negotiation and communications skills are required.

  • Ability to work both independently and with a cross-functional team is essential.

  • The successful candidate must be capable of prioritizing and juggling multiple tasks within a fast-paced business environment.

  • The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of environmental law issues impacting real estate transactions.

  • Travel Requirements: 20%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school plus 5 or more years of transactional real estate experience desired.

  • Prior in-house experience a plus, but candidates with experience at a leading national or regional law firm are strongly encouraged to apply.

Education:

  • JD degree from an accredited institution and admission to the bar of North Carolina or to the bar of at least one (1) U.S. state with the ability to be admitted to practice in North Carolina.
