Job Description – Production Buyer

The Production Buyer will qualify vendors, evaluate and negotiate bids and award contracts for tooling, equipment, materials, supplies and services at the most favorable terms for the organization. He/she will be responsible for managing assigned commodities and suppliers in support of tactical and strategic purchasing initiatives and will create and implement strategies that align product-development and operational requirements with corporate objectives. The Production Buyer will work on a diverse team in a manufacturing environment to resolve multifaceted procurement issues.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Performs market, spend and vendor assessments, develops procurement strategies and secures buy-in from corporate procurement, product development and operational teams

  • Evaluates, develops and on-boards new suppliers and leads supplier relationship management and maintenance efforts for existing suppliers

  • Enforces adherence to procurement strategies for RFx, negotiations and nomination for new products, and tactically transforms existing business to align with the strategies

  • Coordinates new vendor and new product launch requirements including but not limited to: vendor audits, APQP, ISIR/PPAP, PFEP and development of vendor tooling, processes and methods

  • Solicits bids, negotiates pricing, terms and conditions, establishes supply chain parameters, establishes supply chain routes and nominates suppliers

  • Administers requisitions, purchase order and contract requirements, information records, engineering change notices, meetings, performance reports, and account payables issues

  • Enforces vendor adherence to contracts, purchasing policies, procedures and methods

  • Continuously drives supply chain and supplier efficiency improvements and drives down costs

  • Ensures uninterrupted production supply and resolves operational disputes and disruptions related to suppliers

  • Leads escalation efforts and manages cross-functional teams to resolve critical product-development, production and field issues related to suppliers

  • Maintains databases for vendor and materials master data and pricing files

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in supply chain management or engineering

  • 2 to 5 years of prior purchasing or supply chain management experience

  • The ideal candidate will have procurement experience in an industrial equipment manufacturing environment

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Experienced in business and technical data analysis

  • Skilled in market analysis and development of procurement strategies

  • Knowledge of category management

  • Experienced in contract negotiation, influencing and persuading

  • Experienced in total landed cost analyses and total cost of ownership

  • Experienced in supplier nomination and new product introduction (NPI)

  • Experienced in lean project and lean supplier relationship management (SRM)

  • Systems knowledge (SAP, ERP, MRP, Communications, SRM, PLM)

  • Experienced in risk and performance management

  • Experienced in Continuous improvement

  • Manufacturing knowledge (methods, techniques, concepts, terminology, equipment, processes, 6 sigma, lean)

  • Engineering knowledge (bills-of-materials, read drawings, interpret standards)

  • Knowledge of management systems preferred (QMS, EMS, H&SMS … ISO or equivalents)
