Responsibilities/Accountabilities

We are looking for engineers for P&W Columbus Forge Blade, GA facility. You will become part of a highly focused team in a high tech, dynamic and challenging environment. You will work with multi-functional teams including Operations, Quality, Engineering Source Approval, Project Team Leaders, and technicians.

Your responsibilities:

  • Support production of precision forged vanes and approval of manufacturing processes for the demanding environments of next generation turbine engine applications. Drive implementation of corrosion control plan for aluminum parts. Act as a liaison between MPE (engineering) and Columbus Forge (operation).

  • Support disposition of airfoils non-conformances by working with MPE design material engineers. Participate in root cause corrective action and monthly management corrective action board meeting to help improve production processes & part yield.

  • You will interact with materials & processing engineering, manufacturing engineering, component integrated parts team, quality and module centers with some travel to MPE in East Hartford, CT.

  • Work closely with MPE modeling groups to model final part shape, optimize forging process to improve parts yield and reduce the production cost. Further the understanding of chemistry-thermomechanical processing-properties relationships, microstructure evolution and resulting residual stresses from forging, heat treatment, tweaking & machining processes.

  • 10% travel

  • You should be proficient in the physical and mechanical metallurgy of alloys and associated processes.

  • Familiarity and or expertise in some of the following areas is required: Alloys ingot casting; conversion; forging; heat treatment; machining; inspection processes; and material characterization (mechanical, physical & metallographic).

Qualification: To be successful in this position, you should have the following experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in material data analysis, quality systems, material selection processes, and material specification and interpretation

  • The final Grade/Level for this position will be based on Qualifications and Experience.

  • US Citizen due to government contract programs requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace engineering with 3+ years of experience in material data analysis, quality systems, material selection processes, and material specification and interpretation OR

  • Ph. D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace engineering (entry-level)

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification

  • Data collection and management as well as data analysis methods (e.g. minitab)

  • Experience with program planning, cost estimation and scheduling.

  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment, under pressure and capacity to lead multiple projects simultaneously

  • Excellent Judgment and professional maturity

  • The ability to create positive relationships and craft clear communication
