At NORESCO Senior Energy Engineers, lead the technical and engineering efforts for our projects by identifying, evaluating, calculating and determining the solutions for our customers’ energy efficiency and capital improvement challenges. They have a strong understanding of a wide range of technology offerings and building systems to describe the scope of work needed to realize the calculated savings. As a Senior Energy Engineer, you will have a great deal of interaction with customers as well as other NORESCO staff including Sales, Project Development, Construction Project Managers, Measurement and Verification (M&V) and other Engineering personnel. We have an immediate need for a Senior Energy Engineer in Des Plaines (Chicago), IL

The following are the areas of responsibility for this position.

  1. Technical support of sales activities

  2. Energy savings and cost estimates for Energy Performance Contracts

  3. ECM and facility description writing and review/QC

  4. Leading engineering aspects of project team

Technical support of sales activities:

  • Conducts/supports walk-throughs of customer facilities to determine project viability

  • Interviews customers to determine facility needs and assess customer expectations

  • Assists in the preparation of customer presentations

  • Presents the technical aspects of the proposal for oral interviews and customer meetings

Energy Savings and Cost Estimates for Energy Performance Contracts:

  • Conducts energy audits, energy savings calculations and develop cost estimates

  • Identifies and quantifies energy conservation opportunities associated with HVAC systems, EMCS, building envelope, and boiler and chilled water plant systems

  • Analyze utility bill data to determine customer energy performance parameters

  • Perform energy calculations using temperature bin analysis methods to calculate energy savings associated with mechanical HVAC equipment and systems

  • Performs cooling and heating load calculations to properly size chillers, boilers, etc.

  • Works closely with the development team to write detailed scopes of work for subcontractors

  • Develop cost estimates associated with mechanical energy conservation measures

  • Provides energy savings values, utility rates, energy and water baseline information for incorporation into financial models

  • Analyzes Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) for technical and financial viability

ECM and facility description writing and review/QC:

  • Responsible for writing technical sections of the proposal or audit

  • Develops ECM write-ups, facility conditions, utility baseline and other technical proposal sections

  • Integrates project strategy and tactics into customer deliverables

  • Supports the Project Developer to review and edit the proposal and Detailed Audit Documents

Leading engineering portion of proposal team:

  • Supports the proposal team, providing the technical/engineering input needed

  • Use effective time management and proper resource allocation on the assigned projects

  • Coordinates and leads engineering efforts, including review meeting prior to proposal submission, supporting the Project Developer in presenting the technical aspects of the project

  • Responsible for providing technical/engineering project deliverables on time and within budget

Qualification: General requirements we look for include:

  • 7-10 years experience in HVAC, central plant, piping and controls. Experience in a design/build or ESPC environment preferred

  • Proficient in writing detailed scopes of work for turn/key subcontractor pricing

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, especially Excel

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience developing EMCS control strategies to reduce energy consumption

  • Familiarity in developing cost estimates for mechanical HVAC systems

  • Prior experience developing energy conservation measures for ESPC firm preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • PE License preferred| Qualifications
