The Aero-Thermal Testing Group at United Technologies Research Center is seeking a candidate with expertise in aero compressor experimental testing and validation and test facility operations. The position requires analytical engineering skills and hands-on experience in the assembly, instrumentation, installation, testing and troubleshooting of aero compressor test articles and test facility support systems. In addition to compressor test experience, the ideal candidate would also have knowledge and experience in combustion and aero component experimental testing. Activities will include experimental test program planning and execution, day-to-day test operations, ensuring the validity and accuracy of experimental data, and effectively documenting and communicating test results.

Due to the nature of the experimental testing, flexible scheduling and multi-shift test support will be required.

Qualification:

Bachelors candidates with a minimum of 2 years of work experience post degree in experimental engineering pertaining to gas turbine technology focused on aero compressor testing will be reviewed.

Masters degree candidates will need at least one year of work experience post degree in experimental engineering pertaining to gas turbine technology focused on aero compressor testing.

  • Demonstrated understanding of experimental test execution and test facility operations

  • Strong technical leadership and troubleshooting skills

  • Experience in system design, fluid dynamics and pneumatic and hydraulic systems

  • Working knowledge of data acquisition (steady state and dynamic), processing and analysis and test instrumentation

  • Strong project management, scheduling, documentation, teaming and communication skills

  • Strict adherence to Environmental, Health and Safety rules and regulations

  • Experience in MS Office and Project

  • In addition to compressor test experience, knowledge and experience in combustion and aero component experimental testing

  • Experience with the setup, operation and programming of control systems using Allen Bradley PLC hardware and software

  • Familiarization with LabVIEW and/or MATLAB software applications

  • US Citizenship

  • U.S. Government Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a clearance

Education: The candidate should have a B.S. in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related engineering field. The preferred candidate will have a Master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
