Position Summary (narrative)

UTC’s Ingels Engineering Development Program is the Engineering Development Program named after Margaret Ingels, the first American woman to receive a professional degree in mechanical engineering and the first female engineer at Carrier (now part of UTC Climate, Controls, and Security). Among her significant technical accomplishments was the development of the sling psychrometer, a device for the measurement of relative humidity of air.

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Program Manager to lead annual recruiting activities, manage rotation schedules, plan training and onboarding events and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure the Margaret Ingels Engineering Development Program is continuously attracting and developing superior engineers.

Are You Up to The Challenge? You will have complete responsibility and oversight the UTC’s Margaret Ingels Engineering Development rotation program which encompasses 20-30 associates participating in cross-business unit assignments and potentially including international rotations. This includes programmatic, recruiting, and logistical responsibilities.

Key Job Responsibilities

Programmatic

  • Partner with UTC Business Unit Engineering Program sponsors to ensure rotational assignments are aligned, and in place for each individual’s assignment to ensure provision of the best possible experience

  • In conjunction with Engineering & HR functional leadership, oversee cohort organization around the areas of recruitment, retention and curriculum review, as well as events and activities pertaining to program best practices, career development, program website, volunteer activities, and recruiting/university relations

Recruiting

  • Foster recruiting activities through partnerships developed with the UTC Technical Council, Human Resources, and UTC focus schools and functional schools to ensure alignment in the hiring of 10-15 associates per year. This includes:

  • Conduct de-briefing sessions to assess candidate status

  • Organize recruiting and hiring process for undergraduate interns on behalf of UTC Corporate HQ and UTC's divisions

  • Program budget, marketing, and socialization of the program

  • Develop processes and systems to measure impact of related initiatives, and improve upon standard work for related initiatives

  • In collaboration with the BU engineering program sponsors and Human Resources, provide advice and counsel to managers on a variety of topics to optimize employee engagement, team development and program effectiveness

Logistical

  • Oversee campus and interview sessions for 50+ participants, including room and food/beverage reservations, travel arrangements, and securing interviewers and executive presentations

  • Responsible for coordinating the annual UTC Engineering Intern Town Hall sessions which is strongly linked to recruitment of talent for future program cohort

  • Prior experience/involvement with employee career development programs as a participant, supervisor, and mentor is strongly desired

  • The role requires exposure and interface to a variety of UTC functional councils and requires excellent communication and organization skills; ability to successfully navigate and influence strong personalities within a complex business landscape

  • Possess creative problem-solving skills, strong business acumen, understanding of group and corporate dynamics, integrity and the demonstrated ability to employ sound judgment in complex situations

  • Have demonstrated ability to effectively analyze, measure and evaluate program impact

  • Possess a high degree of professional maturity and ability to demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, independent working style, and ability to establish and maintain standard work

Qualification:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Human Resources, Management or related field with a strong academic record.

  • Master’s degree in related field preferred

  • Demonstrated history of success in multiple positions of increasing responsibility, with expertise spanning the qualifications for this role
