The Aero Thermal Methods group at Pratt & Whitney is at the forefront of applying the latest combustion CFD tools to the design of the next generation military and commercial platforms such as the Joint Strike Fighter, Geared Turbofan, and Adaptive Cycle Engines, and is looking for engineers passionate about becoming part of the team to develop these modeling capabilities used to improve the performance and durability of P&W’s combustions. The range of responsibilities will include:

  • You will have experience with physical modeling of mixing, combustion and liquid fuel atomization physical processes, and application of commercial CFD solver and grid generation software.

  • For this application you will have experience with the application of Fluent CFD tools to aircraft combustor and augmentor systems, including grid generation, solver setup and execution, and post-processing.

  • Experience with detailed aero thermal design, analysis and testing of combustors and the interactions it has at the system level including operability, performance, combustion dynamics, durability and thermal systems management is a plus.

  • You will also have excellent written and oral social skills to operate in a leadership capacity for technical problem resolution and sharing this knowledge to technical leadership at P&W.

Qualification: Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • 5+ years of combustion system CFD modeling experience

  • US Citizen required, due to Government contracts

  • Ability to obtain U.S. Government Secret level security clearance is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred with 1+ years of combustion system CFD modeling experience.

  • Responsibility will include leadership responsibility in computational methods for combustor development with CFD, thermo-acoustic tools, as well as rig and engine testing.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with industry and research experience in combustion dynamics and CFD methods for reacting flows.
