NORESCO’s Engineering Group is responsible for identifying energy savings opportunities for large commercial and institutional facilities in support of our Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC). Our Engineering team’s primary focus is to analyze current energy systems and consumption and to make recommendations for energy upgrades necessary to decrease overall energy usage and costs.

We have an immediate need for an Energy Engineer in Fairfax, VA.

As an Energy Engineer at NORESCO, you will have a great deal of interaction with customers as well as other NORESCO staff including Sales, Project Development, Construction, Measurement and Verification (M&V) and other Engineering staff. You will also be representing NORESCO during customer sites visits, progress meetings, and sales presentations. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to possess strong verbal and written communication skills as well as a strong technical background. Here is a look at the responsibilities for this position.

●Conduct energy audits, develop energy savings calculations and develop cost estimates for energy conservation measures (ECMs) at large commercial and institutional facilities.

●Coordinate and schedule site visits with customers and NORESCO personnel.

●Analyze utility billing data to evaluate customer energy performance parameters.

●Identify and quantify energy conservation opportunities associated with HVAC systems, building automation systems, building envelope, and renewable energy technologies.

● Perform energy savings calculations using whole-building modeling (eQUEST, or other) and/or spreadsheet bin analysis methods to estimate savings associated with ECM upgrades.

●Perform cooling and heating load calculations to properly size new HVAC equipment (chillers, boilers, etc.)

●Develop initial cost estimates associated with mechanical energy conservation measures.

●Write scopes of work for HVAC and building automation system improvements, including points lists and sequences of operation, to be included in subcontractor bid documents.

●Write detailed ECM descriptions to be included in competitive proposal submissions and/or construction contract documents.

●Participate in customer meetings and presentations, including competitive oral interviews, to present technical solutions and alternatives

* Education / Certifications

BS in Mechanical Engineering

* Experience / Qualifications

●5 years’ experience in energy auditing and analysis, particularly related to HVAC and building automation systems.

●Prior experience working for an ESCO developing energy conservation measures for ESPC.

●Knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, motors and variable speed drives.

●Working knowledge of building automation systems, and the ability to develop control strategies to reduce energy consumption.

●Experience writing, reviewing and presenting client proposals.

●PE License preferred.

Qualification:

  • 5 years’ experience in energy auditing and analysis, particularly related to HVAC and building automation systems

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • PE License preferred
