Fairfield is currently seeking a highly motivated, experienced EH&S Specialist to join our team working in a hands-on, collaborative environment. The EH&S Specialist will partner with the site EH&S team, and line supervision to ensure EH&S regulatory compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations and adherence to UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) procedures and UTC EH&S Standard Practices as well as identification of health & safety hazards and controls to mitigate risks.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • This position is responsible to ensure Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, and UTC Aerospace (UTAS) standards.

  • Provide EH&S subject-matter expertise to assist in the design of products and processes relate to the site including contractor management, ergonomic assessments, involvement with the design/development of work areas and work procedures.

  • Establish appropriate prevention and control methods.

  • Advise and approve site operating decisions for new/modified operations, processes and/or equipment for environment, health and safety impacts prior to induction within the facility, by supporting the site Management of Change program.

  • Manage hazardous waste compliance program including identifying, monitoring, controlling, inspecting / auditing, and documenting all hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams.

  • Scheduling of hazardous waste shipments, completion of manifests and development of the waste minimization program.

  • Manage of the site Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Lead the development and deployment of cost effective programs/initiatives furthering reductions of:

  • Hazardous waste, water use, and greenhouse gas emissions with a focus on project development to drive sustainability.

  • Coordinate/drive the necessary tactical resources/elements to ensure successful implementation.

  • Lead EH&S audits and inspections of premises and operations in conjunction with others to monitor performance and assist the relevant lane management to produce action plans to implement the necessary improvements.

  • Develop, coordinate, and present training programs for EH&S-related subjects required by federal, state, local, and company requirements.

  • Write, review, update and implement environment, health and safety programs, procedures, reports and training as required by UTAS Policy and all Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies.

  • Define requirements, audit program elements, write standard work, implement regulatory compliance activities and provide timely information.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in environment, health and safety regulations.

  • Ability to assist with explosive safety and general safety issues as necessary.

  • Drive and influence change, provide strong team building, cross-functional guidance and expertise

  • The ability to take a lead role to ensure established EH&S standards, procedures, and programs are met and complied with.

  • Use in-depth knowledge to provide recommendations for complex EH&S issues to management and staff, including compliance with EH&S regulations and the implementation of the EH&S Management System.

  • Strong communication, technical and interpersonal skills required.

  • Capable of working with a wide range of people from the Site Leader to the shop floor and with providing team leadership when required to meet highly aggressive goals.

  • Candidate must possess strong skills in power point, excel and EH&S company managed system.

  • Candidates should also be able to work independently on projects, participate on multiple team efforts, be energetic and provide team leadership when required.

  • Continuous Improvement experience e.g. ACE, Six Sigma, LEAN etc. strongly desired.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with California state specific EH&S regulations and laws

  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing or complex manufacturing environment

  • Bachelor of the Arts/Bachelor of Science degree with 5+ years of experience required

  • Master of Art/Master of Science degree with 3+ years of experience preferred.

  • PhD degree with 3+ years of experience preferred.
