The Sustaining Electrical Engineer evaluates, tests and documents electronic control and electronic component failures and substitutions. This candidate also works on design modifications and component qualifications and interfaces with the manufacturing division to resolve design issues. In addition, this candidate will work on cost savings opportunities in electronic control assemblies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clarify requirements with customers

  • Meet or exceed customer requirements set forth in specifications

  • Listen to, evaluate and respond to customer questions and issues

  • Analyze design options for cost, quality and reliability trade-offs

  • Identify and propose cost improvement opportunities

  • Follow the established engineering procedures and policies

  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives

  • Perform reliability evaluations of components using established procedures (FMEA, Stress Analysis, Failure Rate Analysis)

  • Work with Team Members to reduce PPM levels and to improve supplier quality

  • Provide assistance to other team members as well mentor and assist in the development of Entry Level employees, Co-ops and Technicians

  • Travel: Minimal - to customer, field and other sites

  • Schematic Capture Tool (ORCAD or equivalent)

  • Ability to:

  • Work on multiple projects

  • Problem solve and think analytically

  • Troubleshoot

  • Electrical component knowledge

  • Read and create schematics

  • Digital and Analog design experience

  • Embedded Microprocessor circuit experience

  • Experience in testing and debugging of electronic circuits and systems

  • Understand and write specifications (functional, design, test, etc.)

  • Experience with DVMs, Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, ICEs, ESD/EMI/RFI test equipment

Preferred:

  • C and assembly code basic understanding

  • Understanding of the Hardware development process

  • Electronic manufacturing understanding

  • HVAC application exposure

  • PC board layout understanding

  • Product packaging experience

  • Product cost estimation experience

  • Statistics and data analysis experience

  • Soldering skills

  • Understanding of the Safety Agency requirements

Education:

  • BS Engineering or BS EET
