RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop custom packaging for electronic controls taking into consideration critical characteristics such as man-machine interfaces, temperature and vibration exposure, aesthetics, appropriate materials, PCB mounting requirements and manufacturing processes

  • Design of injection molded plastic parts, with a good understanding of mold flow analysis for warpage, gate location and plastic flow

  • Utilization of specifications, datasheets and experience in selecting materials with an emphasis on plastics

  • Interface with team members, customers, and suppliers to move designs from concept to production

  • Evaluation of failures to determine root cause and corrective actions

  • Sustaining mechanical engineering support to manufacturing operations and cost reduction efforts

  • Schedule/cost estimates for mechanical tasks/components

  • Product Change Notice generation and implementation

  • Planning and leading mechanical component test activities as well as supporting reliability group and manufacturing mechanical test fixtures

  • Participate/lead mechanical design reviews

  • Selecting manufacturing technologies, and participating in the selection of suppliers

Qualification:

  • Experience designing individual parts and assemblies, preferably in the electronics packaging field

  • Experience with generation and release of drawings and bills of material

  • Knowledge of FEA techniques for static and dynamic structural analysis and thermal analysis

  • Ability to perform hand calculations for structural and thermal analyses in lieu of or in support of FEA

  • Knowledge of DOE, FMEA, tolerance analysis, statistical methods and qualification methods

  • Creo (Pro/E) experience is preferred

  • Experience with injection molded plastic and metallic castings a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
