Carrier is seeking a highly motivated Software/Systems Manager to work with a team of systems, software, and power electronics engineers responsible for developing embedded solutions that drive the Carrier HVAC equipment and connectivity. The ideal candidate is excited by the prospect working with our team to further optimize our systems and software development methods for scale and speed in imaginative and innovative ways. You will be integral leader in developing and integrating our products into the Connected Home. You will work closely with our marketing organization to define and execute product and technology roadmaps.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team (10-15) of systems, software, and power electronics engineers in the development of embedded products for both HVAC equipment and in home connected products such as thermostats

  • Participate with Carrier’s Marketing organization to help define the technology and product roadmaps for future HVAC equipment controls and Connected Home features\products

  • Actively participates in the project planning process (e.g. estimates for project plan tasks, resources, completion time, capital requirements, risks, expenses, etc.)

  • Understands the software development life cycle and processes using model based development

  • Lead product development governance reviews

  • Lead continuous improvement activities relative to software development and systems methodologies

  • Works effectively with various engineering functions/disciplines; systems, hardware, validation/reliability and manufacturing

  • Balances the responsibilities of sustaining and new product development projects

  • Participates in risk identification reviews

  • Conduct on going appraisals/mentoring of direct reports

  • Completes systems integration and software requirements

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Responsible for multiple projects

  • Oversight of 10-15 direct reports

  • Makes significant contribution to their team by applying their knowledge of the discipline

  • Works with limited guidance

Qualification:

  • 10+ years of electronics/controls product development experience

  • Experience developing firmware with C & C++ programming languages

  • Experience with various connectivity protocols (WiFi, Bluetooth, Z-Wave, Zigbee, etc.)

  • Experience interacting with internal/external customers

  • RTOS or Linux experience

  • Experience with software architecture and design patterns

  • Familiarity with debugging

  • Experience with 8, 16, or 32 microcontrollers

  • Experience with configuration/change management systems such as PVCS or Rational Team Concert

  • Experience with IBM DOORS NG or other requirements

  • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

  • Organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities

  • Proven ability to implement continuous improvements and standardize processes

  • Previous leadership/managerial experience (preferred)

  • Linux/Android (preferred)

  • Experience with ARM Microcontrollers (preferred)

  • Model Based Development using IBM Rhapsody and Matlab/State Flow (preferred)

  • (HVAC) System Design Experience (preferred)

Education:

  • BS/MS in Computer/Electrical/Systems Engineering or Computer Science and equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience

  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
