The Power Electronics Center of Excellence (PECoE) is highly skilled engineering organization within Rockwell Collins, supporting the military and commercial aviation businesses by designing high-reliability power electronics solutions. The major functions provided by the PECoE include design development engineering, advanced technology development, strategic sourcing, and technical project management.
Perform assignments requiring use and application of electrical engineering or scientific development principles and techniques. Assignments usually consist of solving problems that are a part of a larger project or system. Uses independent judgment to make decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities the majority of the time under general supervision
The ideal candidate will have experience in power electronics design (power supplies, EMI filters, etc.). He/she must be highly motivated, adaptable, and capable of working in a multi-disciplined team with a positive attitude, and proficient in managing project cost and schedule. The candidate must have good communication skills for conveying technical approaches, trade-offs, risk assessments, and recommendations.
He/she must be able to design solutions that meet aircraft power/EMI requirements described under MIL-STD-704 , MIL-STD- 461, and DO-160. This includes derivation of requirements, simulation, magnetics design, trade studies, design for manufacturability, DTC, verification, troubleshooting, power factor correction design, and factory support.
Significant domain knowledge and knowledge of products and systems in assigned portfolio (e.g. avionics products). May be considered a specialist or a generalist in more than one domain and/or area of expertise. Mentors product development teams in the utilization of the appropriate RC processes and tools during product development, thus increasing product quality and improving customer satisfaction.
Serve as a hardware architect to capture, analyze, decompose, translate and create requirements for systems of moderate to high complexity. Refine functional, interface and performance specifications for hardware implementation. Identify and document architecturally significant requirements and technical risk areas.
Serve as the hardware subject matter expert in proposal preparations, internal design and customer reviews. Assure that development products are designed to meet the applicable RCI, Business Unit, and Customer/Project requirements.
Has significant knowledge of company, industry practices and standards and assists in identifying gaps in the organization's technical knowledge. Aware of emerging industry trends relative to new board technologies and fabrication processes. Lead Continuous Improvement projects that result in new approaches and techniques to product development.
Capable of leading teams in the design, test, analysis, integration, qualification and documentation of hardware of high complexity. Apply and tailor internal processes, using knowledge of methods and tools for hardware development and documentation efforts.
Estimate, track, own and report status relating to technical, cost, schedule, design-to-cost and risk performance for assigned scope of work.
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.
Experience in developing, capturing, and reviewing system level power requirements
Experience with power supply magnetics design, planar magnetics design experience a plus
Experience with various power levels and frequency ranges, DC/DC and AC/DC power conversion designs (topologies, components, control, packaging, etc.)
Experience with EMC/EMI, thermal stress, and other environmental issues and their impact on design methodology
Experience in the aerospace industry
