Det-Tronics is looking for a highly skilled Printed Circuit Board Layout Engineer. In this role you will perform all functions related to the creation of the printed circuit boards designed at Det-Tronics using Electrical Computer Aided Design (ECAD), and in addition, perform the required functions to build Mechanical drawings for documentation and product approvals using Mechanical Computer Aided Design (MCAD).

Some of these functions include schematic entry, library part creation and maintenance, board layout and vendor interfacing through the manufacturing process of the printed circuit boards, and detailed assembly and piece part drawings. Additional responsibilities include administration of the Component Information System (CIS) engineering database and a focus on continuous improvement activities.

Job Functions:

You will participate as a team member on project design teams, with a primary focus on printed circuit board design and layout, plus reducing the time to market for the entire project.

  • Assist in schematic layout and definition of critical components.

  • Creation of library parts used in the layout process, and included are the required design reviews.

  • Layout of the Printed Circuit Board (PCBD), with emphasis on fast cycle times.

  • Collaborate with both electrical and mechanical engineers for critical layout parameters

  • Work with electrical and production engineering for proper test pad or test point locations.

  • Leadership role on training programs on ECAD when appropriate.

  • Administration of the CIS Engineering Database

  • Contribute to the companies ACE & EHS goals.

Product Documentation

  • Prepare both electrical and mechanical drawings and/or bills of material (BOM), for use during the production release of new products

  • Continuous assessment of library parts through the use of an Approved Vendor List (AVL), and adding or deleting components as they become either obsolete or replaced by another vendor.

  • Interface with the Engineering Change Order (ECO) and the documentation process all ECO’s affecting library parts, AVL, mechanical assemblies and/or piece parts, or a PCBD

Continuous Improvement

  • Tools used to increase performance and efficiencies by shortening the design/layout cycle time.

  • Hardware and/or software technologies

  • Electrical and mechanical layout standards, components, and PCBD layout advances.

  • Technical support interface with ECAD vendors.

  • Technical interface between outside board manufacturing facilities and Detector Electronics Corporation.

  • Continuous improvement in the area of backups to protect the overall investment in the design, development and production documentation of all PCBD’s including layouts, gerber plots, artworks, and etc., and mechanical piece parts and assemblies.

Educational requirements:

Two years vocational technical training plus 5–10 years of drafting experience, and ECAD/MCAD background. Proven knowledge in electronic packaging and layout principles with many technologies including through-hole and surface mount technology (SMT). Strong mechanical aptitude for mechanical layout and drawings.

Required experience

5+ years of working with Cadence Allegro ECAD software including CIS (Component information system)
