Det-Tronics is searching for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer.
This role will provide technical support to assigned manufacturing departments or product families, with a strong focus on process improvement and industrialization.
Main responsibility will be to review current processes and equipment and upgrade or design new a more efficient, repeatable, and robust process and/or equipment.Determine and implement production processes required to manufacture and test products designed by Engineering. Responsibility includes tooling, fixture design/build, assembly definition, process documentation and resolution of all production problems on released products and new product development.Provide technical support to areas assigned to ensure product specifications are met, at minimum cost. Review and analyze data and reports from Quality Assurance and Operations to determine root causes of non-conformity and implement corrective actions. This includes working with outside vendors/subcontractors/suppliers and evaluating parts and assemblies as part of the Material Review Board (MRB)Develop and document value stream maps, assembly process flows and work instructions, production control plans and other standard work documents. Perform annual / bi-annual reviews of above documentation for changes and updates. Establish, incorporate and maintain labor standards and product routings.Responsible to review and implement new documentation releases and/or product changes via ECO (Engineering Change Orders) within production. Clarity, accuracy, effectivity, and rework / scrap instructions shall be part of this review.Responsible for cost analysis, justification, project leadership and implementation of capital equipment. Provide capital equipment forecasting for annual budgeting. Continually monitor existing products and assembly areas for effective methods of cost reduction / productivity improvements. This includes an on-going review of standard hours and line metrics (product yields, productivity, output, capacity, etc.)Coordinate production of print verification units (for areas assigned) to establish processes and assure manufacturability. This includes checking and correcting documentation to ensure accurate assembly and reliable quality, at minimum cost.Determine space requirements for various functions. Plan or improve production methods, including layout, production flow, tooling and production equipment, material, fabrication, assembly methods and manpower requirements.Responsible for special projects and assignments deemed necessary by the Manufacturing Engineering & Quality Assurance Manager. Support and lead ACE / Continuous Improvement & Lean projects and initiatives for the Operations ACE cell. Support achievement of UTC and DEC EH&S goals; complete monthly inspections and complete all assigned action items in a timely manner.
EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:
BS degree in electrical, mechanical or industrial engineering or equivalent required.
5+ years experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer in an industrial setting.
Proven problem solving skills and experience in using continuous improvement tools to benefit a lean manufacturing environment.
Excellent written and verbal skills
Demonstrated open attitude for continuous improvement.
Demonstrated leadership abilities in solving complex problems or leading projects with a multi-departmental team.
Proven ability to perform under stress and meet guidelines
Must be able to perform essential job functions safely and work within established company guidelines for EH&S and Ethics.
Previous hands on experience working with Printed Circuit Board / SMT manufacturing, glass fabrication, electrical & mechanical fixture / test methods or design, lean manufacturing, and / or electric or electro-chemical sensor technology.
Six sigma background/DOE experience desirable
Chemical engineering, vacuum coating and processing, or experience with producing life safety detection products.
Knowledge and experience using MiniTab or other SPC skills and the ability to conduct MSA studies, and SPC data collection.
Knowledge and experience using AutoCAD or LabVIEW, a plus
Experience in a fire and gas industry.
