UTC Climate, Controls, & Security (CCS) division is seeking a Embedded Controls Software Engineer who will work as part of our team to create efficient, high quality, and reliable real-time controls products for Carrier Transportation Refrigeration Units. The Embedded Controls Software Engineer will utilize state of the art software development processes and tools including Model Based Design to create, verify and document software/firmware programs.

This position will be primarily focused on embedded controls design and integration, specifically the design and implementation of refrigeration system real time control functionality and integration.

This role is a part of UTC Re-Empower Program which helps support talented and committed professionals as they rebuild their capabilities, enhance leadership skills, and continue their professional journey. Over the course of this 16-week program, experienced professionals will gain paid, on-the-job experience, have an opportunity to participate in sessions with leadership, develop personalized plans for success and receive coaching to guide their return to work experience. Upon completion of the program, based on performance, Re-Empower participants may have an opportunity to convert to a full-time role.

Cohort III of the UTC Re-Empower Program will run September 5 - December 21, 2018.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Applying software lifecycle management and model based design principles and tools to design and implement embedded software solutions.

  • Interface with refrigeration systems engineers to understand requirements and applications and translate them into specific hardware and software specifications.

  • Participate in project planning activities, sizing of work tasks.

  • Contribute to improving software development processes with new ideas and introducing new tools, including model based design.

Qualification:

To qualify for the UTC Re-Empower Program, candidates should:

  • Currently be on a voluntary break of at least two years or more

  • Have a minimum of five years of professional work experience

  • Have an interest in returning to work in a full-time position

  • Have an ability to attend the Re-Empower Program Orientation at UTC Headquarters in Farmington, CT on September 5-7, 2018

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong C++ and C programming skills for embedded systems applications

  • Development of real time applications with use of RTOS including Embedded Linux

  • Design of embedded software modules as part of an overall architecture

  • Formulation and execution of unit testing, debugging, and troubleshooting

  • Familiarity with software development and lifecycle management tools

Education:

  • BS degree in Computer Engineering with 5 years of embedded controls experience

  • MS degree in Computer Engineering with 3 years of embedded controls experience

  • PhD degree in Computer Engineering with 1+ years of embedded controls experience
