Several of our companies at United Technologies have been suppliers to the international maritime and offshore industries for decades, and by coordinating our activities under one marine umbrella we are able to utilize our latest technology and offer a wide portfolio of marine solutions, services and expertise to ship builders, ship owners and operators worldwide. Carrier Marine & Offshore Systems is responsible for providing air conditioning products and systems from cruise ships to fishing boats and offshore drilling platforms to oil tankers.

We are seeking a senior Project Engineering professional with deep knowledge and highly developed technical HVAC expertise to support the Marine team. The Project Engineer will develop small to mid-size product plans, budgets, perform critical analysis, pursue all cost saving opportunities to maximize project profitability, and monitor project performance. They will also identify and react to project problems and recommend solutions. The position will be based out of Syracuse, New York. There is approximately 20% travel.

This will be a customer facing position. The Marine Project Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Directly communicating with and provide technical support to external customers

  • Supporting customers/marine dealers for all Carrier products

  • Managing design/build of custom equipment for marine projects

  • Interfacing with manufacturing personnel to ensure design/build meets customer’s requirements

  • Interfacing with internal groups/factories to resolve technical, scheduling, other issues

  • Providing technical, communication skills necessary to effectively present findings and corrective actions to clients

  • Contributing to the team by applying knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration design, heat transfer, fan systems & electronic control systems

Qualification:

  • Experience leading project teams or multiple small to mid-sized projects or led a functional team or unit in area of expertise

  • Strong technical knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration design, heat transfer, fan systems, control systems

  • Strong knowledge of Carrier residential/commercial/industrial HVAC components, products, systems and controls is preferred

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve HVAC system problems; electronic controls function in HVAC equipment

  • Experience in the specification, design, development and manufacture of products in the HVAC, refrigeration, compression is ideal

  • Self-starter with ability to learn quickly, work independently under minimal direction, able to prioritize work to meet customer needs

  • Organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities, follow-up and follow-through skills

  • Strong communication and technical writing skills along with project level experience is preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint), E-CAT, Carwin. Experience with SAP, Quotebuilder, AutoCAD is a plus

Education:

  • BA/BS degree in Engineering w/4-7+ years experience

  • MA/MS degree in Engineering w/2-5+ years experience
