United Technologies Aerospace Systems has an opportunity for an Advanced Manufacturing Technology Engineer responsible for driving advanced manufacturing technologies into our manufacturing facility. The positions’ primary responsibility is to develop, plan and integrate advanced manufacturing technologies with new product development in a seamless fashion, eliminating or reducing risks upfront of design introductions and changes such that production of new products can take place at an accelerated rate. Secondary responsibility is the continual review of current manufacturing processes and develops plans to integrate advanced manufacturing technologies into state of the art processes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The focal point of integrating all new product introductions with advanced manufacturing technologies

  • Ensure manufacturing readiness for implementation of new product introductions

  • Responsible for advancing current manufacturing processes

  • Streamline and advance manufacturing process where required and as they coincide with existing product design changes

  • Development of a budget plan and manage within budget constraints. Makes recommendation on the purchase of advanced manufacturing processes and equipment

  • Leads strategy deployment for the advanced manufacturing technology function to ensure operational efficiency and economy. Initiates advanced manufacturing development activities across the entire business with a specific focus on next-generation manufacturing techniques, process, and design as it relates to polymers, etching, and electronics

  • Research and benchmark best in class advanced manufacturing technologies in polymers, thin film etching, and electronics assembly

  • Develops and improves manufacturing process and tools to be highly capable in the manufacture of newly developed and legacy products.

  • Development of process flow introductions and enhancements with new or current equipment installations

  • Perform manufacturing design improvements for product quality, manufacturability, and reproducibility

  • Implement advanced technology design solutions by developing alternatives through suppliers, new product introduction engineering or universities

  • Guide the technical work of manufacturing readiness level to achieve project milestones. Has regular and frequent interface on project status

  • Frequent travel expected to Union, WV Manufacturing location

  • Travel expected to investigate manufacturing technology and supply sources.

  • Must be willing to travel 50% Qualification:

Basic Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities using effective problem-solving resolution skills using Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma tools with a team focus

  • Proven track record of implementing advanced manufacturing technology within a new product introduction process or within legacy product process changes.

  • Verifiable ability to drive a culture of accountability and results through the effective use of team building

Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in a technical discipline is required: an advanced degree is a plus

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering setting with at least 3 years of advanced manufacturing of polymer, electronics, or thin film etching processes.
