We currently have a Technical Publications Writer position open located in Vergennes, Vermont.

Primary Responsibilities:

This role will create and distribute all UTC technical publications.

  • Writes, rewrites and or edits technical documents to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.

  • Acquires subject knowledge (such as ATA, S1000D, FrameMaker, XML, Word and Arbortext), by interviewing product developers, observing the performance of production methods and referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations and trade journals.

  • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.

  • Conducts quality review of materials. Distributes technical materials through appropriate media channels.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Works independently to draft and edit moderately complex technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate technical specifications and instructions to various audiences.

  • Researches and analyzes developments in assigned products and services to determine the need for revisions in previously published technical materials and for the development of new materials.

  • Liaises with product developers, engineers, mechanics and other technical experts, observes production methods, and refers to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals to acquire the knowledge needed to develop moderately complex technical publications.

  • Works with engineers and other technical personnel to clarify technical document contents.

  • Consults with business unit and department leaders to assist with the development of distribution plans for technical publications.

  • Oversees the maintenance of work records to ensure all files are organized and accurate.

  • Coaches lower level professionals on technical document development steps.

Education:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Technical Communications or Engineering

  • 4+ years of technical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Arts/Master of Science degree

  • S1000D experience is a plus
