Description:

Pratt & Whitney is seeking an experienced design discipline chief to join our Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) organization with expertise in commercial and military Fan, Low and High Pressure Compressors design. If you have relevant background or experience in these areas and possess the skills and motivation to bring new ideas into practice, Pratt & Whitney would like to hear from you.

Key job functions:

  • Provide technical guidance in the resolution of module level technical problems and issues.

  • Proactively develop mechanical arrangements that result in products and components that are low cost and competitively superior within program schedule milestones.

  • Lead root cause investigations and ensure robust product and process corrective actions are implemented.

  • Benchmark and maintain awareness of emerging trends in mechanical design processes and product technologies to steer mechanical design and compressor technology strategy.

  • Team with CSE discipline chiefs and subject matter experts to manage the product review process and ensure first time design quality.

  • Communicate with team leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics.

  • Support development of Engineering Standard Work, Training and provide expert knowledge to Mechanical Design Engineers via coaching and mentoring.

  • Lead efforts within the Design Technical Discipline Steering team, to develop and manage mechanical design tools, methodology and criteria.

  • Utilize TPM, QCPC, RCCA and other tools to continuously improve design processes.

Qualification: Candidates must have highly developed interpersonal, leadership, teaming and problem solving skills. Significant interaction with internal and external customers is expected. Communication skills and assertiveness are key qualities to possess.

Candidate must have at least 20 years of advanced turbomachine design experience with a concentration in gas turbine engine compressors. Broad knowledge of product design processes and overall engine system integration with a substantiated ability to be successful in independent endeavors on complex tasks is required.

Proficiency with Mechanical Design tools, including NX, TeamCenter or equivalent is desired.

Black Belt six sigma certification is also desired.

Education: B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering.

M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering preferred
