Specific responsibilities of this role include:
- 3D Printing: Day-to-day operation of additive manufacturing (AM) equipment: the fused deposition modeling of polymer prototypes and laser powder bed fusion of metallic hardware including material change over, filament quality check, inventory control, and post-processing). Create build files, layouts, and modify CAD models to reflect AM standard work. Prepare training content as well as create new and revise Standard Work (SW) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for routine processes around UTAS AM Lab.Materials Characterization: Hands-on experience with analytical tools such as scanning electron (SEM), light optical microscopy (LOM), thermal analyses (TGA/DTA/DSC), and particle size distribution (Microtrac). Physical, chemical, mechanical, and thermal characterization of alloy powders and their recycling for reuse in our metal AM machine including writing SOPs. Develop test methods for powder spread ability machine including computer control software.Engineering Evaluations and Communication: Apply professional knowledge of engineering principles and techniques, standardized mathematical methods, and previous design and test information to the resolution of technical problems in order to obtain satisfactory results. Conduct laboratory and research investigations when needed under the guidance of your lab supervisor. Assist in the preparation of technical reports to summarize data and present conclusions
*Education / Certifications
- Pursuit of BS degree in Engineering; i.e., Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering degrees, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent in a related program of study at an accredited college or university.
*Experience / Qualifications
Ability to understand basic technical issues and develop solutions within scope of responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Prior related internship experience highly preferred. U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
