Role Overview:

The Windsor Locks maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility support a number of UTAS products families, which include air management systems (AMS), engine systems (ES) and propulsion system products. Reporting to the engineering manager, you will be responsible for providing technical support related to the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations of AMS or ES products (and any associated support/test equipment). Your primary responsibilities will include management of task assignments with some direction from the engineering manager. This position will require interaction and teamwork with all levels of the organization and external customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering work instructions and test documentation.

  • Provide written technical instructions for the accomplishment of repairs or modifications to maintenance, customer, and regulatory authorities, including interfacing with the OEM.

  • Constantly drive continuous improvement within the MRO facility. This could be individually or as part of a team that may include: operations, quality, technicians, materials procurement personnel and engineering groups outside of the aftermarket.

  • Review existing approved technical repair data, technical drawings of mechanical/hydraulic/electrical systems and components, including interfacing with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

  • Source and assist with the design of tooling and test equipment Troubleshoot complex test equipment, and conduct relentless root cause analysis as required

  • Provide technical evaluation of test stand anomalies and develop new test capabilities.

  • Analyze and substantiate moderately complex repair development activities from a technical and financial perspective.

  • Produce technical analyses to ensure compliance with all appropriate regulatory, customers, OEM requirements; Update and revise technical data in MRO facility procedures when required.

  • Communicate technical details of repairs or modifications through the use computer aided design (CAD) tools.

  • Assist the operations team with additional tasks when business needs arise.

  • Assist other engineers within the team as required in order to maximize the department’s efficiency.

  • Communicate information and respond to queries on technical topics.

  • Develop and implement solutions to general (and sometimes moderately complex) technical issues (often without direct supervision or assistance).

  • Work with the operations team to develop and implement cost savings activities, (sometimes acting as the team leader).

  • Provide leadership and technical support on cost of poor quality (COPQ) reduction efforts.

  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) policy and management system and proactively work to mitigate or eliminate EH&S risks.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to read and fully understand engineering drawings and other technical documentation.

  • Computer skills including, CAD software (preferably Unigraphics), MS Office software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Understanding of solid and fluid mechanics, machine design, manufacturing processes and measurement techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply information from technical manuals and documents as well as other reference material.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in an environment where limited standardization exists and changes can occur rapidly.

  • Test rig software programming languages, experience with SAP and/or Solumina is a plus.

  • Understanding or experience with lean manufacturing theory and concepts is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply company policies/procedures.

  • Strong demonstrated the ability to work well with individuals and in a team environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with import trade compliance policies when dealing with technical data (test rig layouts, engineering drawings, technical documentation, etc.)

  • Beyond the technical capabilities and experience, a successful candidate will be highly motivated, creative, possess a sense of urgency and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Job specific competencies include: Dealing with ambiguity, problem-solving, technical learning, process management, critical listening, learning on the fly and time management.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Manufacturing or Aerospace) or a related technical discipline is required.

  • Masters degree or working toward a Masters in an engineering discipline or business is a plus.

  • Minimum of 7 years engineering experience and/or product support experience preferred.
