The Operations team continues to grow and aims to strengthen the connection of Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain and Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) across Collins Aerospace. In this dynamic environment , you will have the opportunity to network across our businesses and functions, all while improving the productivity, quality and efficiency of our operations worldwide.
The primary role of this position is to represent the needs of Operations (including manufacturing, test, and quality) in the early phases of new product design (concept/preliminary design, especially). The ideal candidate will be able to critically review electronic designs to identify opportunities for manufacturing improvements, and also maintain a relationship with design disciplines to oversee designs as they progress with the goal of eliminating damage opportunities, inefficiencies, and turnbacks during build and test. Lessons learned will be shared on a regular basis with other representatives of electronics manufacturing, including internal and external locations.
Works with a variety of engineering disciplines to reach agreement on a design philosophy that can be built within plantsite capabilities while also meeting the requirements of the customer.
Review electronics schematics, engineering drawings (including printed circuit boards, soldered PCB assemblies, and other assemblies)
Introduce design teams to producibility concepts and design guidelines for manufacturing.
Share new product design concepts with plantsites affected by upcoming production builds.
Regular correspondence with manufacturing and quality, as well as other producibility groups, to share lessons learned and understand challenges to production builds, including low yield contributors, ergonomic factors, manual assembly steps, and other inefficiencies affecting the build.
Participate in plant site activities, such as PFMEAs, controlled builds, Kaizen events, and production improvement.
Support development activities for prototype electronics concepts and manufacturing technologies.
Occasional plantsite support for temporary production increases.
Occasional support as subject matter expert for other BU needs (supporting internal and external manufacturers)
Travel requirements: 20%
Bachelor's or Advanced Degree with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering desired
Electronics knowledge strongly desired
Engineering, Operations, and/or Manufacturing experience preferred
Ability to communicate effectively with a team and work reasonable compromises
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required.
